Celebrate great genre writers’ birthdays and bask in their writing wisdom by checking out these articles. First up are noted authors Cherie M. Priest, born on July 30, 1965, and J. K. Rowling, who entered the world of muggles on July 31 a decade earlier.

Cherie Priest (she seems to have dropped the middle initial) is an award-winning science fiction and horror writer, having written several well-received series of books. Her most famous novel, Boneshaker, was nominated for both a Hugo and a Nebula, and won the Locus Award. And J. K. Rowling is known for a book series based on a boarding school for magicians, the Harry Potter epic, which has become the best-selling book series in history and not doing bad as a series of films either.
